During Monday’s Coronavirus Task Force press briefing, President Trump addressed significant concerns with the World Health Organization, but then spent a large portion of the presser discussing the need to get the country back open.

With the country on edge weeks into the quarantine, President Trump is pushing hard, within reason, to get the country back open and save individuals and companies from financial ruin.

While certain states, such as New York, have been hit hard and will likely experience a longer quarantine, there are others that remain far less impacted. “There are over 20 [states] that are in extremely good shape, and we think that we will get them opened fairly quickly,” said Trump.  He continued on to say that some of these states may open ahead of schedule “maybe even before the date of May 1st.”

However, the president made it clear that the decision to reopen would be up to the governors and that he would be speaking with all 50 state leaders to discuss the plan to get our country back on track.

“I’m not going to put any pressure on any governor to open.”

He reiterated this point throughout the question and answer session saying things like, “we’re here to watch, we’re here to help,” speaking of the federal government’s assistance to governors, and “if they’re not satisfied with testing [in their state], they shouldn’t open.”

President Trump also reeled off a long list of major businesses and industry leaders that he would be speaking with to help kickstart the economy as the U.S. attempts to return to the record breaking state that it was in prior to the coronavirus pandemic.
