If New York City wasn’t in the throes of a civil insurrection then the feud between New York Democrat Governor Andrew Cuomo and Marxist Democrat New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio could be chalked up to the usual Democrat soap opera of machine politicians like Cuomo versus the prog socialists like de Blasio.

But with NYC in crisis, their childish spat is hampering efforts to quell the street violence, as they need to be on the same sheet of music to coordinate city and state efforts to bring peace back to New York City streets. But apparently their egos mean more to them than the safety of their constituents.

Though the embers had been long smoldering, the spark was ignited when on Tuesday Cuomo called de Blasio’s leadership during the riots in the city a “disgrace.” He then casually mentioned he has the power to “displace” the mayor, “bring in the National Guard” and essentially “take over” the city. But, he said, “I don’t think we’re at that point.”

Cuomo prefaced that with, “The NYPD and the mayor did not do their job last night, I believe that. You have 38,000 NYPD people, it is the largest police department in the United States of America. Use 38,000 people and protect property. Use the police, protect property and people. Look at the videos, it was a disgrace.”

Cuomo has every right, indeed the responsibility, to call the mayor out on his horrible and weak response to the riots. At one point Hizzoner rationalized them as “the product of 400 years of racism.” While de Blasio mouthed leftist cliches cops were being firebombed, neighborhoods set ablaze, businesses ransacked, and innocent people injured and worse. But de Blasio sat in Gracie Mansion and fiddled with his speechwriters.

When labeled the fool he is, the mayor fell back on a dodge—that Cuomo had attacked the NYPD. Cuomo did and should not have attacked the NYPD. It was scurrilous. But the main criticism was clearly directed at de Blasio. Nevertheless, the governor has given the mayor and his allies a talking point. It is ironic indeed that a mayor who has gone out of his way to denigrate and weaken the NYPD is now cowering behind the blue shield for protection.

“He [Cuomo] dishonored the men and women of the NYPD in an absolutely inappropriate way for any leader to do,” the martyr mayor said on 1010 Wins talk radio Tuesday. “Any elected official who blames the NYPD while they were out there fighting in the streets to restore order, protect people – that’s disgraceful… He owes an apology to 36,000 hardworking men and women who have been putting their lives on the line for all of us.”

To amusingly throw fuel on the fire, GOP former Mayor Rudy Giuliani commented on the fracas, “The de Blasio-Cuomo problem is a special problem. They hate each other. And frankly, de Blasio is completely incompetent. And the governor, really in good conscience, should replace him because he’s the sole reason why the New York City Police Department isn’t acting… And it really wasn’t fair of the governor, who attacked the police department. He should have attacked de Blasio.”

As is usual with the former mayor on issues of law and order, he is exactly right. Will Cuomo act? Nope—his threat is toothless. De Blasio knows this and will act accordingly.
