Here’s Why Prince Charles Knew Meghan Markle Would Not Last Long in the Royal Family

Earlier this year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle shocked the world when they announced that they were stepping down as senior members of the British royal family. While millions of royal fans were left stunned by this, one person who was not surprised by this was Harry’s father Prince Charles [1], as new reports indicate that he knew right from the start that Meghan would not last long in “The Firm.”

“I think [Prince Charles] likes strong women, but in The Firm there is only room for one Queen,” royal expert Nigel Cawthorne told The Sun [2]. “The Firm” is a phrase used to describe the business side of the British royal family.

“I think he foresaw considerable problems ahead for The Firm,” Cawthorne explained. “Harry and Meghan amplified the popularity of the royal family in the way that Prince Andrew and Fergie did at the time. However, for the sake of The Firm he will feel this outcome is better that the monarchy is small in size rather than a constellation of stars in separate orbits.”

Cawthorne made sure to add that Charles truly does like Meghan, and that he even nicknamed her “Tungsten.” He also said that Charles “genuinely made an attempt to support what Harry and Meghan were looking for.”

“In truth, however, there wasn’t a lot he could do apart from offering moral support,” Cawthorne continued. “He no doubt personally regrets the fact that he won’t see his son and family as much as he otherwise would have. … He likes tradition and order.”

After stepping down from the royal family, Harry and Meghan briefly moved to Canada with their 1 year-old son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. They have since relocated again to Meghan’s hometown of Los Angeles, California, where they have been staying in the $18 million mansion of Hollywood mogul Tyler Perry while they look for a home of their own in the area.

This comes after it was reported that Harry has been having regrets about being so far away from his family during the coronavirus pandemic. This was made even more difficult for Harry when Charles tested positive for COVID-19 back in April, as it has since been “hit(ting) home for him that Charles and the Queen aren’t going to be around forever.
