Taylor Swift blasts 2020 census for asking people to choose one of two genders: Says it’s discrimination against transgender people

The singer Taylor Swift just launched an all-out assault on the 2020 census, claiming that transgender and non-binary people are being discriminated against because it only lists two gender options”—male and female.

Swift, 30, made these comments while appearing on the Pride Live’s Stonewall Day Instagram livestream, which was holding an event marking the anniversary of the 1969 riots that took place at the Stonewall Inn, a New York City gay bar where the LGBT movement was launched.

“I wanted to say happy Pride Month,” Swift said at the start of her speech. “The Stonewall Inn has been such a symbol of rebellion in the face of oppression and such a safe space for people. I want to say thank you to everybody who works there, everyone who has worked there, everyone who’s made it the place that it is.”

After praising the Supreme Court for its June 15 ruling protecting LGBT workers from job discrimination, which she described as a “really good step forward,” Swift shifted to attacking the census. “I got my census the other day, and there were two choices for gender. There was male and female, and that erasure was so upsetting to me, the erasure of transgender and non-binary people,” she said. “And when you don’t collect information on a group of people, that means that you have every excuse in the world not to support them.”

“When you don’t collect data on a community, that’s a really, really brutal way of dismissing them,” Swift added.

Swift then ended her speech by urging her fans to exercise their right to vote. “We need to check our absentee ballot policy in our states, and we need to make sure that we elect people who care about all communities,” she said. “I love you guys so much, and I hope you have an amazing rest of Pride Month and continue fighting the good fight.”

After getting her start in the conservative world of country music, Swift spent years staying silent about politics. This was refreshing to fans on all sides of the political spectrum, given how inundated we are every day with wild political opinions from narcissistic celebrities.

Unfortunately, Swift “came out” two years ago as a radical liberal, and she has since been using her platform to lecture her fans about the importance of leftwing causes. In the process, she has alienated the millions of conservative fans who got her where she is today by supporting her back in the days when she was just a small country music singer.
