Days after rumors spread online that the talk show of longtime host Ellen DeGeneres had been cancelled, she was hit with more bad news, as the hashtag #RIPEllen began trending on Monday night.

This indicated that DeGeneres had become the target of a viral death hoax that quickly spread online like wildfire.

“Is Ellen dead or not?! Y’all confusing tf out of me #ripellen,” one confused fan tweeted.

Other Twitter users mocked the situation by posting the hashtag #RIPEllen alongside photos of various celebrities who look like the talk show host. These celebrities included Jane Lynch, Kathy Bates, and even Justin Bieber.

This comes after a rough couple of months for DeGeneres, as rumors of her rude behavior behind the scenes on her show has gone viral multiple times.

It started back in March, when comedian Kevin T. Porter created a viral Twitter thread calling on users to post their most “insane” stories about “Ellen being mean.”

“A new staff member was told, ‘Every day she picks someone different to really hate. It’s not your fault, just suck it up for the day and she’ll be mean to someone else the next day.’ They didn’t believe it, but it ended up being entirely true,” television writer Ben Siemon wrote in one response.

Crew members of DeGeneres’ talk show then accused her of keeping them in the dark for weeks about the future of their employment after the show went on hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Beauty influencer Nikkie de Jager came forward as well to say that her experience appearing on the show as a guest earlier this year was a negative one.

“Call me naive, but I kind of expected to be welcomed with confetti cannons,” de Jager said.

“But instead I was greeted by an angry intern who was a bit overworked. I was expecting a Disney show, but I got Teletubbies after dark.”

MORE NEWS: No Show Today

“Is she always nice? No,” one former staffer said of DeGeneres.

“It irritates me that people think she’s all sweetness and light and she gets away with it.”

Things came to a head last week, when rumors swirled that DeGeneres’ talk show had been cancelled due to low ratings.

Producers of the show, however, were quick to deny this.

“Telepictures can confirm it’s untrue,” a representative for her production company told The Sun.
