Alabama Abortion Doctor Suspended After Bragging About Killing Babies

An Alabama Abortion doctor recently had her license suspended by the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners after she posted statements to social media bragging about killing unborn children. Dr. Leah Torres was serving as a temporary director for the West Alabama Women’s Center when her certification was denied on the grounds of lying on the application and breaking the code of ethics.

The letter sent to Dr. Torres stated, “The Board denied an application for a certificate of qualification on Aug. 19, and on Aug. 27 temporarily suspended her license to practice medicine ‘until a hearing is held on the allegations against her.’” Those allegations, according to the notice are “public statements related to the practice of medicine which violate the high standards of honesty, diligence, prudence, and ethical integrity demanded from physicians licensed to practice in Alabama.”

As for the lying on her application, it appears Dr. Torres wasn’t the best doctor as the denial letter states she lied several times when asked if any of her “staff privileges” had been revoked while working at a hospital or healthcare facility.

The main offense against Dr. Torres are statements she made on a now-deleted Twitter post. In the post, Dr. Torres brags about cutting the umbilical cord before the baby has a chance to scream. Here is the conversation:

User: “So [if] it’s not for the money, is it because you just like infanticide? Do you hear their heartbeats when you lay down at night? Do you hear their screams?”

Dr. Torres: “No. You know fetuses can’t scream, right? I transect the cord 1st so there’s really no opportunity, if they’re even far enough along to have a larynx. I won’t apologize for performing medicine, I’m also a ‘uterus ripper outer,’ if that’s how you’d like to describe hysterectomy.”

Surprisingly, the Women’s Center Dr. Torres was practicing at released a statement supporting the doctor and claiming the decision was nothing more than a misunderstanding.

“West Alabama Women’s Center is following all state guidelines regarding its operation. We believe the actions taken regarding Dr. Torres’s licensing application are based on misunderstandings concerning documents she filed with the Board of Medical Examiners and the Medical Licensure Commission. We know Dr. Torres to be an entirely honorable and professional doctor and look forward to the resolution of the issues relating to her application and license.”

Using words like “Honorable” and “Professional” to describe a doctor who jokes about killing innocent lives seems absurd, but a report shows the West Alabama Women’s Center performed 3,371 abortions in 2018. That is more than half the total number of abortions performed that year – statewide.
