Meghan Markle spoke out through her lawyers this week to deny claims that she cooperated with the authors of the book “Finding Freedom,” which chronicles her relationship with Prince Harry and their “Megxit” from the British royal family.

Fox News reported that lawyers representing a British newspaper publisher are claiming that Meghan made personal information public when she allegedly cooperated with the authors of the book. Meghan is in the midst of suing Associated Newspapers Ltd. over five articles that published portions of a handwritten letter she wrote to her estranged father, Thomas Markle, after she got married to Harry in 2018.

The royal is suing the publisher to seek damages over alleged misuse of private information, copyright infringement and data protection breaches. Associated Newspapers, however, has denied the claim and argued that Meghan and Harry did indeed cooperate with “Finding Freedom” authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

At a hearing in court on Monday, the publisher argued that the book “contains a great deal of detailed information about (Meghan’s) personal life, including a number of passages referring to her relationship and communications with her father, and a section referring to the letter which is at the heart of this case.” Antony White, the lawyer for Associated Newspapers, said before the judge that the book seems to have been written with Meghan and Harry’s “extensive cooperation.”

Meghan’s lawyers, however, stood by the claim that she had nothing to do with the book.

“The claimant and her husband did not collaborate with the authors on the book, nor were they interviewed for it, nor did they provide photographs to the authors for the book,” said Meghan’s lawyer Justin Sherbrooke.

This comes after author Scobie told the podcast Heirpod that Harry and Meghan have been “thriving” and had “taken their careers as philanthropists to a whole other level” since they stepped down as senior royals back in March.

“It shows how much they were held back by tradition, hierarchy and stubbornness within the institution,” he said, adding that the couple is “absolutely happy” at this time.

“This is the couple operating in a way they were desperate to for some time but couldn’t for a number of reasons, many of which tie into what is considered too politically sensitive or not,” Scobie said.
