The self-described Democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) spoke out on Sunday to say that young Americans will vote for Democratic presidential nominee, but not because he is “their favorite person.” Instead, she said that they will vote for him because they believe they can more easily sway him to do their bidding.

Ocasio-Cortez, who supported Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in his presidential run, told CNN’s “State Of The Union” that though Biden does not have the same views as she does, he will be more receptive to her ideas than President Donald Trump is.

“I believe that young people right now have a very disciplined activist mindset,” she said. “They are not here with the intent of voting for their favorite person or voting for, you know, someone they think is perfect as president.”

“I think young people are actually quite disciplined and quite realistic and pragmatic in their vote and they want to vote for who they are going to lobby,” Ocasio-Cortez added. “Right now young people are so clear on their stances on so many political issues that they believe that they want to vote for a president that is at least is going to be receptive to their advocacy, activism, and protests, frankly.”

She said this while talking about Biden’s position on fracking, which host Jake Tapper pointed out has been “confusing.” Though Biden seemed to support banning the practice altogether during the Democratic primary race, he has now backtracked to claim that he would only ban new fracking on federal land. Ocasio-Cortez is at odds with Biden on this, saying that she wants a total ban on fracking.

“It will be a privilege to lobby him should we win the White House,” she said.

The New York congresswoman went on to say that she believes it is “critically important” that if Biden wins, he must choose progressive leaders to serve in his cabinet.

President Trump and other Republicans have warned that Biden will cater to the radical left if he wins this election. Ocasio-Cortez’s latest comments appear to indicate that this is exactly what will happen.
