The media is supposed to be the gatekeepers of our democracy. It is their duty to keep the American people up to date with what is going on in politics. But over the past four years, the media has taken on a different job. It is no longer about facts and figures when it comes to the media, it’s all about the narrative being told and what is being sold. With that, an annual survey found that majority of Americans no longer watch the news, but they also don’t even trust the news.

The survey, conducted by Edelman, showed that Americans are growing tired of being lied to. Like the Democrats, the media has become jaded with their facts as they continue their war with Donald Trump. As for the American people, 56% of them say they don’t trust the media. Edelman’s survey says, 56% of Americans agree that “Journalists and reporters are purposely trying to mislead people by saying things they know are false or gross exaggerations.”

But the poll didn’t stop there. They also asked Americans how they feel about being up to date on current events and how much they trust the information being told to them. Again, the poll found that 58% think “most news organizations are more concerned with supporting an ideology or political position than with informing the public.”

Given that the poll was taken before the election, Edelman decided to ask the same questions again after the election. Knowing the 2020 election was shrouded in controversy, it is easy for Americans to get caught up in the media circus that has surrounded Trump since he took office. But surprisingly, the numbers didn’t change much. If anything, they continued to worsen given the state of the country. Edelman found that 57% of Democrats trust the media and only 18% of Republicans.

As trust in the media is at an all-time low, you believe they would be scrambling to repair their image, but that isn’t the case. As Biden took office, the media went from harsh and condemning of Trump to loving everything the President stands for. And it doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.
