Joe Biden wants to get much done and get it done quickly. Oh joy. But many of his plans will have to go through the Senate for approval. If the Senate is dealing with an impeachment trial it must put aside all else. Thus, what happens to a quick enactment of the Biden agenda?

FNC: “House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hasn’t indicated when she will send the latest article of impeachment against President Trump to the Senate even as House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, her chief deputy, publicly advocates that the article be sent ‘as soon as possible.’ Pelosi, when asked Wednesday whether she would send the impeachment article to the Senate on that same day, responded that ‘I will not be making that announcement right now.’ That was a break from Hoyer, D-Md., who, asked if he knew when Pelosi would send the article, said: ‘The speaker’s talking to Mr. Schumer and will determine that, but I’m personally urging them to send it over as soon as possible.’ ”

Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell doesn’t want to deal with it any time soon: “I believe it will best serve our nation if Congress and the executive branch spend the next seven days completely focused on facilitating a safe inauguration and an orderly transfer of power to the incoming Biden administration.” And on the trial? “While the press has been full of speculation, I have not made a final decision on how I will vote and I intend to listen to the legal arguments when they are presented to the Senate,” McConnell said.

Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer responded, “A Senate trial can begin immediately, with agreement from the current Senate Majority Leader to reconvene the Senate for an emergency session, or it will begin after January 19th. But make no mistake, there will be an impeachment trial in the United States Senate…The president incited a violent mob against the duly elected government of the united states in a vicious, depraved and desperate attempt to remain in power. For the sake of our democracy, it cannot and must not be tolerated, excused, or go unpunished.”

Joe Biden wants it done quickly. He realizes the threat of stalling his agenda. “Now, the process continues to the Senate — and I hope they’ll deal with their Constitutional responsibilities on impeachment while also working on the other urgent business of this nation, from confirmations of key posts such as secretaries for Homeland Security, State, Defense, Treasury and Director of National Intelligence, to getting our vaccine program on track, and to getting our economy going again.” Nice words. Wonder if Nancy Pelosi is even listening?
