Sarah Huckabee Sanders is running for governor of Arkansas in 2022 and she will be hard to beat. In a Trumpian conservative Republican state she will have the former president’s backing. But she also left the administration early enough not to be tainted with post election issues. Her father was a popular governor, she was a political pro before she joined the Trump administration, and she is 38, which gives her candidacy a feel of dynamism and youth.

The state is so Republican that who wins the primary is almost certain to win the general election. Her current primary opponents, the lieutenant governor and the state AG, must not be happy with this news. Such is politics.

“My dad always said the real test of a leader is not the way you handle the issues you know are coming, it’s rising to the moment in a crisis you could never plan for,” Sanders said in a video announcing her candidacy. “I’ve been tested under fire.”

“Everything we love about America is at stake. With the radical left now in control of Washington, your governor is your last line of defense. In fact, your governor must be on the front line. So today, I announced my candidacy for governor of Arkansas and ask for your prayers and your support,” she said.

“As governor, I will defend your right to be free of socialism and tyranny. Our state needs a leader with the courage to do what’s right, not what’s politically correct or convenient. I took on the media, the radical left and their ‘cancel culture,’ and I won. As governor, I will be your voice, and never let them silence you,” Sanders added in the announcement.

Her father chimed in. “A truly remarkable lady just announced she’s running for my old job. It comes with the same [government] housing she grew up in. Watch the video. Support her [with] prayer [and] contributions! Giddy up!” said former governor Mike Huckabee on Twitter.

Sanders previously talked about her start in politics. “I was stuffing envelopes, I was knocking on doors, I was putting up yard signs. I’m absolutely my dad’s biggest fan, and anything he wanted to do, I wanted to be a part of,” Sanders said in a 2010 interview. She’ll likely get that chance and perhaps more.
