A family from Nashville, Tennessee could not help but break down in tears when they were recently reunited with their dog, who went missing after a car crash.

The Luckett family said they were out for a drive last Saturday when Fergus, their 200-pound Irish Wolfhound, was thrown from their vehicle after a minivan hit their Expedition. They then launched the group “Find Fergus” on Facebook, and over 1,400 people quickly joined to help with their search efforts.

It all paid off for them, and they were reunited with Fergus yesterday!

“As many of you already know, Fergus is HOME!” Meredith Luckett wrote in a Facebook post. “We were contacted early this morning with word that Fergus had been found about half a mile southwest from the site of the accident. The homeowner spotted Fergus and said he walked right into her home when she called for him. We rushed over to the home, and unbeknownst to us, a volunteer recorded this portion of our eagerly-awaited reunion. I’ve watched this video over and over again because it still feels like a dream!”

“Fergus was taken straight to the vet for a preliminary exam, and fortunately most of his injuries appear to be superficial – lots of cuts ands bruises, but we’ll know for sure after a more extensive exam tomorrow,” she added. “In the meantime, he’s at home resting comfortably and being treated like a king!”

“This reunion wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of HUNDREDS of amazing volunteers who worked tirelessly since Saturday evening to help us comb the streets and spread the word about our boy,” Luckett concluded. “Nashville, you showed up! We are still overwhelmed by the incredible response we received from our community and beyond, and we are eternally grateful. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! We are SO thrilled to be sharing this happy ending with you all!”

Luckett later added an update that read, “We’ve had so many thoughtful people ask if they could donate funds towards vet bills or send toys and treats for Ferg. We are so grateful and would LOVE for you to instead donate these items to your favorite local rescue in his honor.”
