Since the COVID-19 vaccine was made available, many Americans have been concerned about the side effects of being vaccinated. Instead of the government trying to ease those tensions, it appears Krispy Kreme has decided to do their part to help America by offering one free doughnut, per day, to any person that has received the vaccination.

I don’t know about you, but that sounds like a tempting offer. I mean studies have already shown that COVID-19 numbers are higher in people who suffer from obesity, but what harm can a single doughnut every day really do?

Seeing how absurd the offer is, people took to Twitter to criticize the company, but one user and New Jersey gym owner Ian Smith decided to take it a step further. He tweeted, “In light of #@krispykreme giving free donuts for receiving the CVD shot, here at @TheAtilisGym we are giving out free memberships to all who don’t get vaccinated. We believe in health — the real way — exercise, good diet, plenty of Vitamin D, Zinc, and an environment to destress.”

The tweet was shared thousands of times as people continued to weigh in on the matter. As for Smith, he is standing by his decision to reward people who refuse to get vaccinated. Smith made news in May when he purposely defied the stay-at-home order and kept his business open during the pandemic. His actions also caught the eye of the local government who not only had him arrested several times, but gave him fines in the amount of $1.2 million, which he still refuses to pay.

If that wasn’t enough, American Airlines also banned Smith from traveling on their planes for not wearing a mask. It should also be noted that he was traveling from CPAC at the time. 

As for Krispy Kreme, the CEO Michael Tattersfield said, “As America starts to make progress in the pandemic and you start to see scaling back the vaccines, we made the decision that said hey, we can support act of joy, which is if you come by, show us a vaccine card, get a doughnut anytime, any day, every day if you choose that!”

And a little side note, Krispy Kreme isn’t leaving those non-vaccinated completely out. For a limited time, only on Mondays, can a person who has not been vaccinated come in to receive not just a free glazed doughnut but a coffee as well…
