When it comes to the Democrats, they tend to stick together as seen with the Cuomo scandal, but there is one name that even makes them a little cautious. This person is fairly new to politics but has already made a name for herself as the queen of Twitter and master of Instagram. If you don’t know who I am talking about, it is none other than the self-promoting, hardest worker ever, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She screams about equality and BLM while claiming to be fighting in the trenches for the American people. But according to a new survey – AOC may be more talk than action.

The survey, which was a joint effort between Vanderbilt University and the University of Virginia, showed that AOC was one of the least effective members of Congress. During her time in Congress, AOC has introduced “21 Bills”, which is no small number, but that is as far as it goes. None of the bills were ever discussed, voted on, or even managed by a committee.

Alan Wiseman, a Vanderbilt political scientist, told reporters, “She introduced a lot of bills, but she was not successful at having them receive any sort of action in committee or beyond committee and if they can’t get through committee they cannot pass the House. It’s clear that she was trying to get her legislative agenda moving and engage with the lawmaking process, but she wasn’t as successful as some other members were — even among [other] freshmen — at getting people to pay attention to her legislation.”

Breaking the numbers down even further, among the 240 Democrats that hold office, AOC ranks 230th at her effectiveness as a politician. And why is this exactly? According to Twitter and Instagram, AOC is beloved for not being afraid to get her hands dirty, but again – social media can be misleading.

Wishing to remain anonymous, two Democratic insiders who have worked closely with AOC gave a glimpse into what matters when it comes to dealing with the Congress freshman. One said, Tweeting is easy, governing is hard. You need to have friends. You need to understand the committee process, you need to be willing to make sacrifices. Her first day in Congress … she decided to protest outside of Nancy Pelosi’s office.”

And the second insider didn’t have much more to add than what is AOC’s main focus. They said, “legislation was never her focus. It was media and narrative.” So, while getting likes and going viral may be easy for the new member of Congress, making a substantial change to the people’s lives who voted for her appears to be last on her list.
