As vaccinations are being distributed among America, many people are anxiously awaiting the moment they can go back to the way it used to be. Just a few weeks ago, President Biden urged people to hold out a little longer and we might be able to have a somewhat normal July 4th. But even as vaccinations are on the rise and case numbers are steadily declining, the Biden Administration appears to be ramping up their COVID-19 efforts with a new contest aimed at redesigning – the facemask.

The new contest was announced on Wednesday by the Department of Health and Human Services. The agency supposedly “launched an innovation challenge competition, encouraging American inventors to aid the nation’s COVID-19 response by designing effective, comfortable face masks for personal use that resolve the common concerns people have about wearing masks” such as fogged glasses and difficulty speaking through face coverings.”

As for the details of the contest, participants must have their new mask design in no later than April 21st and will be split into two phases. There will be 10 winners selected during the first phase with a prize of $10,000. In the second phase, up to five winners will be picked and they will split a cash purse of $400,000.

The new contest is part of a larger outreach program by the Biden Administration to help promote the vaccine. The campaign and contest are spending upwards of $10 million to help educate people about the importance of being vaccinated. But does Biden’s new contest send a different message to America?

It was President Biden himself who promised a normal July 4th if America just followed the mandates and did their part to be vaccinated, which they did. But if the country is slated to be fully operational this July, why are the Democrats spending so much money on new mask designs?

Even Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky announced “We are oh-so-very close. The president announced today 90% of Americans will be eligible for a vaccine by April 19th, and 90% of Americans will be within five miles of a vaccination site by April 19th. Extraordinary measures to get to where we need to be, so we’re just asking people to wear masks for just a bit longer.”

But even with the majority of people becoming eligible, the Biden Administration continues to push mask mandates for all. Recently, President Biden urged open states like Texas and Florida to slow down and implement mask mandates again. It doesn’t matter that since Texas opened at full capacity – its COVID-19 cases have dropped. But then again – has it ever really been about keeping people safe?
