Since the tragic death of George Floyd last summer, cities across America have been ransacked with looting and nightly protests. While it is every American’s right to peaceful protests, the riots have been anything but peaceful. From destroying local businesses to attacking police officers, these so-called revolutionaries have been free to destroy anything in their paths as the Democrats have yet to denounce the violence. But thanks to the Republicans, a new bill would not only condemn violent protests but would also protect innocent people from falling victim to these criminals.

On Wednesday, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt, who is a Republican, approved two bills that would drastically change how protestors are treated and even grant immunity to people trying to flee the violence. But while most people support the bill and hope it brings back safety and order to the cities, protestors see it as an infringement on their right and decided to do what they do best and storm the state capitol to show their disdain.

But before we get into the riots at the state capitol, let’s take a look at the two new bills and why they have enraged demonstrators. The first bill introduced would increase the penalties for protestors who decide to block or barricade roadways. The bill also goes further by granting immunity to motorists who are fleeing the protests for their own safety. In short, a person can not be held liable for injuring or killing a person while fleeing the scene in their vehicle.

The other bill is aimed at protecting police officers who have come under attack, virtually. For months, officers have fallen victim to doxxing. For those unaware, doxxing is where a victim’s personal or private information is released via the internet. This includes addresses, kid’s schools, and even donations they have made.

With both bills passing the state House and Senate, it was up to Gov. Stitt to sign it into law, but before he could, protestors decided to storm the Senate building. Luckily, security officers acted quickly and barricaded the main doors before demonstrators could gain entry. But what is more interesting is how the Democrats haven’t mentioned a word about the attack and even continue to support BLM and several other anti-peaceful movements.

As the bill was eventually signed, its author Sen. Rob Standridge, another Republican, recalled what made him want to push so hard for the bill in the first place. He recalled an incident where a family vehicle feared for their lives as protestors blocked the Tulsa interstate. The vehicle eventually drove through the protestors, paralyzing one demonstrator from the waist down. But as Senator Standridge puts it, “The kids cowered in the back seat because they feared for their lives. That’s what this bill is about.”
