With immigrants crossing the border in record numbers, the Democrats and Republicans have been at odds as to what to call the current situation. To the Democrats, it’s nothing more than a “challenge”, but to many Republicans, who have visited the border – it’s a full-blown “crisis”. Well, over the weekend, President Biden decided to set the record straight when he himself called the Southern Border a crisis. Sending reporters in a frenzy, many outlets ran the story of Biden finally admitting a problem at the border. That was until his Press Secretary walked back on his comments, confusing reporters and Americans even more.

According to Jen Psaki, President Biden wasn’t talking about the situation at the southern border but was referring to raising the immigration cap from Trump’s 15,000. “The president does not feel that children coming to our border seeking refuge from violence, economic hardships, and other dire circumstances is a crisis. He does feel that the crisis in Central America, the dire circumstances that many are fleeing from, that is a situation we need to spend our time, our effort on, and we need to address it if we’re going to prevent more of an influx of migrants from coming in years to come.”

Psaki’s unusual comments come after a turbulent week for Biden. Just a few days ago, the White House released that they would be holding the immigration cap to 15,000, which was the same number implemented by former President Trump.

Surprisingly, the Democrats appeared to turn on Biden as they pressured him to raise the cap to the 125,000 he promised during the campaign. Unfortunately, that number was decreased shortly after Biden became president by half. But as for their current fight, Biden quickly caved to the pressure and even blamed the media for the confusion as he said he would be raising the immigration cap eventually.

As for Psaki, she refrained from admitting that Biden was put under pressure from the Democrats to make the sudden change, even though the Customs and Border Protection encountered a record 172,000 migrants in March alone. Not to mention, many of them were children. But remember, it’s not a “crisis”.
