Queen Elizabeth Says Goodbye To Prince Philip By Leaving Handwritten Letter On His Coffin

The funeral of Prince Philip, the 99 year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth, took place on Saturday eight days after he passed away at Windsor Castle. It has since been revealed that as the emotional funeral came to an end, the Queen said goodbye to her beloved husband of 73 years by leaving a handwritten letter on his coffin.

Entertainment Tonight [1] reported that Philip’s funeral took place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. On his coffin, a wreath could be seen along with a handwritten letter from the Queen that was written on her stationary. Throughout their decades-long relationship, the Queen and Philip famously wrote love letters to one another often. They met in 1939, when the Queen was only 13 and Philip was 18, and they had been devoted to one another ever since.

“She fell in love, and she never looked at anyone else,” biographer Sally Bedell Smith told People Magazine [2].

The Queen sat alone during the funeral service because of COVID-19, and she could be seen wiping back tears at times. Only thirty people attended the funeral because of the pandemic, and royal experts said that Philip played a role in planning out his funeral, choosing to have a small ceremony instead of a state funeral, which he was entitled to as the Queen’s consort.

“He has asked, in his words, [for] a simple affair and that is exactly what is happening at the ceremonial service that will take place at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle,” said Omid Scobie, co-author of “Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family.”

Despite the Queen’s devastation at Philip’s death, sources have assured the public that she will not be abdicating the throne.

“Her family will step up and be by her side, but she will carry on. She understands that she has a job to do, and [Philip] would have wanted her to crack on. She did do so when he retired from public life,” said one senior aide, with a close royal insider adding, “She will never abdicate because of duty and honor and public service is so deep in her, as it was for him.”
