In Texas a new bill is being proposed that would protect children from sex change procedures and would remove children from the care of any adult who is attempting to force hormone treatment or sex change surgeries.

SB1646 was heard before the Texas State Senate Committee on State Affairs during a hearing on Monday.

The bill would prohibit parents or caregivers from, “administering or supplying, or consenting to or assisting in the administering or supplying of puberty suppression prescription drug or cross-sex hormone to a child, other than an intersex child, for the purpose of gender transitioning or gender reassignment.”

“Parents who break the proposed law would be in violation of the state’s Family Code, which would trigger a Child Protective Investigation, resulting in the possible removal of the child from their home, according to Perry’s office. Doctors who perform sex change treatments would also be accused of child abuse, which would trigger a license investigation by the Texas Medical Board,” – KVUE 

Under the bill hormone replacement therapy and puberty blockers would be considered forms of child abuse.

Democrats are enraged by the bill claiming it denies healthcare to transgender children. However the focus of the bill is to protect children from making life altering decisions until they are adults.

Last month Arkansas passed a similar bill that bans transgender surgeries, hormone replacements and puberty blockers for minors. There are currently 17 other states that are considering passing similar bills to protect minors until they are old enough to make life altering decisions for themselves.
