From the time of childhood to even becoming an adult, Disney remains a pillar in many people’s lives. It’s hard to think of a fond memory without remembering one of the Disney classics like Sleeping Beauty or the epic tale of Tarzan. But while most of us look back on the Disney classics with love and admiration, there are some that question the decisions behind the characters and if they did anything morally wrong. These people make up what we call “cancel culture” and they’ve recently set their eyes on the iconic Snow White.

Recently, Disneyland in California opened their newly renovated Snow White ride called “Snow White’s Enchanted Wish”. Unlike other parks, Disney continues to revamp their classic rides to stay current with technology. Snow White was just the latest update in their ongoing efforts to stay relevant, but some are calling the mouse out for what they are referring to as consent issues.

Among the backlash are two San Francisco Chronicle reviewers Katie Dowd and Julie Termaine. According to the pair, the ride should have used the update to remove the iconic kiss scene where Prince Charming saves Snow White by giving her true-loves kiss. That’s right, the main scene of the entire film has upset the reviewers and woke culture because Snow White didn’t give consent.

Dowd and Termaine used their writing abilities to attack Disney for supporting such an act of debauchery. They said, “Haven’t we already agreed that consent in early Disney movies is a major issue? That teaching kids that kissing, when it hasn’t been established if both parties are willing to engage, is not OK? It’s hard to understand why the Disneyland of 2021 would choose to add a scene with such old-fashioned ideas of what a man is allowed to do to a woman. Why not reimagine the ending in keeping with the spirit of the movie and Snow White’s place in the Disney canon, but that avoids this problem?”

While the pair was quick to attack the ride and the story behind it, neither writers were able to give a single example as to what Prince Charming could have done to save Snow White. Luckily, the ride is still being operated and visitors can enjoy the ride’s new technology, soundtrack, and visual elements.
