‘Hooked On A Feeling’ Singer B.J. Thomas Dead At 78

B.J. Thomas, the legendary musician who was best known for his hit song “Hooked On A Feeling,” died on Saturday after a battle with lung cancer. He was 78 years-old.

Thomas had only announced back in March that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

“I just wanted to take this unique opportunity to share my gratitude to Gloria, my wonderful wife and my rock for over 53 years, my family, friends, and fans,” he told People Magazine at the time. “I’m so blessed to have had the opportunity to record and perform beautiful songs in pop, country, and gospel music, and to share those wonderful songs and memories around the world with millions of you.”

“I ask all of you for your prayers during this time and that my music can live on with you,” he added, staying optimistic that he could continue with the tour dates he had planned in April.

During the course of his career, Thomas won five Grammy Awards, and he was also known for hits like “Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head.” Entertainment Tonight [3] reported that he sold more than 70 million albums worldwide, with eight No. 1 hits and numerous top 10 singles on the country, pop and Christian music charts.

Thomas leaves behind his wife Gloria, three daughters Paige Thomas, Nora Cloud, and Erin Moore, and four grandchildren, Nadia Cloud, Keira Cloud, Ruby Moore, and Billy Joe Moore.

Always incredibly humble, Thomas even used his cancer announcement back in March to praise his family and friends.

“I just wanted to take this unique opportunity to share my gratitude to Gloria, my wonderful wife and my rock for over 53 years, my family, friends, and fans,” he said at the time, according to People Magazine [4].

“I’m so blessed to have had the opportunity to record and perform beautiful songs in pop, country, and gospel music, and to share those wonderful songs and memories around the world with millions of you,” he continued. “I ask all of you for your prayers during this time and that my music can live on with you.”

Thomas even gave the world his own eulogy on his website.

“All I am is just another guy. I’ve been very lucky,” he wrote. “I’ve had a wonderful life, I’ve been a husband and a father who cherishes his children and now I’m a grandfather, and I’m motivated like all these teachers and preachers and mothers and fathers to help my kids grow up with character and self-respect. I hope that doesn’t sound too grandiose, but that’s what it comes down to. It’s what I’ve tried to do with my music and with the majority of my life.”
