The Retreat Into Infantilism

Perhaps taking a cue from the gentle and adorable Khmer Rouge, the Left in America has chanced upon a brilliant gambit to make America easier for the taking. Through public education and pop culture they aim to turn the majority of the citizenry into whining savage infants.

I came upon this idea after watching Peter Brooks’ superb 1963 film “Lord of the Flies”, based on a book of the same name by William Golding. In it, if you’re not familiar, after a plane crash about two dozen young British public school boys are stranded on a South Pacific desert island with no adult supervision. After a brief period of harmony they turn on each other, form cult-like tribes, hunt imaginary beasts, kill some of their own, and almost kill more. They are stopped, in the last scene, by the appearance on the beach of a Royal Navy officer from a nearby ship. Thus adult order is restored to a chaotic world of vicious children.

At the point in the film when the cult tribal kids are at their most frothing and insane, I noticed they bore a marked resemblance to your typical Antifa rioter. No reasoning, no ideas, both just filled with the primitive urge to destroy.

This is what the negation of adult leadership since the 1960s has produced in America. We have upon us a superhero watching, barely literate, tech-obsessed, generation who occupies Wall Street and believes socialism will bring about universal nirvana. Whose fault is it? Our own.

By allowing the public schools to shovel drivel into their heads, by taking them to see movies devoid of substance but high in imbecilic fantasy, by sending them to colleges and universities that teach them to despise responsible adult leadership, we are left with the results of our own negligence running amok on the streets of major cities. Granted, many American parents are fine people who have fine kids. But enough parents have looked the other way when their kids were being poisoned by cretinous and Leftist pop culture that the situation on our streets is akin to the situation on that fictitious island.

But, it’s worse than that. At the end of the aforementioned film adults take the helm and rescue the boys from themselves. Who can take the helm of America to rescue us from our own Khmer Rouge brigades of deadly children, some of whom even sit in Congress? No one. We will squirm for a while, as we fall further backwards into an atavistic political and cultural youth cult.

Back beyond even the tribes on that island. Back into a retreat towards social infantilism, where a crying yet brutal infantile society is cosseted and stroked by the decrepit hand of the state until nothing is left of adult reasoning but the mystical chords of memory. That’s where we’re headed. And there will be no Royal Navy officer to save us when we get there.
