Roya Nikkhah, royal editor of The Sunday Times, spoke out on Monday to address Meghan and Harry’s decision to both go on parental leave.

“It has been a turbulent year, I don’t think you can get away from that, but I think for Harry and Meghan, they’ve talked about how excited they were to complete their family,” Nikkhah said, according to The Express. “They’ve now got their much-longed for daughter. They’ll take a little bit of time away from the public spotlight just to have a bit of family time.”

“A royal baby is always a great time of joy, usually a national celebration over here,” she added. “I think it will land well and hopefully ease the path to a slightly less rocky year ahead.”

The world was stunned on Sunday when the couple announced that they had welcomed their baby girl.

“Lili was born on Friday, June 4 at 11:40 a.m. in the trusted care of the doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. She weighed 7 lbs 11 oz. Both mother and child are healthy and well, and settling in at home,” Meghan and Harry said in a statement. “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”

“This is the second child for the couple, who also have a two-year-old son named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” they added. “The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family.”
