Just a few weeks ago, Dr. Anthony Fauci announced that children aged two and older should wear masks to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Again, many experts and research have shown that masks do very little to stop the virus from spreading, but that didn’t stop Fauci from making the recommendation. Now, the American Academy of Pediatrics apparently agrees with Fauci as they announced children over the age of 2 should wear masks when returning for the 2021-2022 school year. And apparently, it doesn’t even matter if the children have been vaccinated or not.

As of right now, children aged 12 years and over are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in the U.S. The chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on School Health, Sonja O’Leary, stated, “We need to prioritize getting children back into schools alongside their friends and their teachers. Combining layers of protection that include vaccinations, masking, and clean hands hygiene will make in-person learning safe and possible for everyone.”

And although no one is protesting the flu shot, O’Leary also advised children to get their flu vaccine that will reduce the spread of influenza.”The last thing we want as we come out of this pandemic is an outbreak of another vaccine-preventable disease. Now is the time for all of us to work together to keep our kids healthy and safe.”

Last week, the Food and Drug Administration announced that the COVID-19 vaccine eligibility for children 12 and younger could be available by midwinter.

And as you might have guessed, Dr. Fauci was thrilled by the announcement. “When you have a degree of viral dynamics in the community, and you have a substantial proportion of the population that is unvaccinated, that you really want to go the extra step, the extra mile to make sure that there’s not a lot of transmission, even breakthrough infections among vaccinated individuals.  think that the American Academy of Pediatrics, you know, they’re a thoughtful group, they analyze the situation, and if they feel that that’s the way to go go, I think that’s a reasonable thing to do.”

While Dr. Fauci and the American Academy of Pediatrics stand by their claims, it should be noted that the CDC issued a guidance stating that vaccinated students shouldn’t have to wear masks while in the classroom.
