Just yesterday we reported on a San Francisco gay men’s chorus that released a music video telling parents they were coming for their children. The video quickly went viral and before long, the chorus removed the video as many viewers found the lyrics to be threatening. While unsettling, this isn’t the first attack on the youth of the nation. Recently, the Chicago Public School Board of Education stunned parents when they mandated all schools provide condoms for students starting in fifth grade.

First reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, the new CPS policy will take effect when schools reopen in August. And like mentioned above, the schools will start supplying condoms to students in fifth grade and up. That means kids at the age of ten will be able to receive free condoms if they want them. The policy will be mandated in over 600 CPS schools.

Host of “The News & Why It Matters”, Jaco Booyens, condemned the policy as just the start of hyper-sexualizing your children. “Listen to their wording. ‘We need to have children make healthy sexual decisions.’ In Chicago, 5-year-olds are taught masturbation, so now fifth graders need condoms. Why? Because they are being hypersexualized. They’re now engaging in activity and conversation way prematurely. There’s not a child on the planet in fifth grade that can make ‘healthy sexual decisions.'”

Although many parents have already expressed their outrage over the new policy, Dr. Kenneth Fox, the chief health officer for CPS, told reporters kids as young as 10 “have the right to accurate and clear information to make healthy decisions” and “need access to resources to protect their health and the health of others as they act on those decisions. Essentially, what we want to do is make condoms available to students for if and when they think they need them,” he added. “[W]hen you don’t have those protections and don’t make those resources available, then bad stuff happens to young people. You have elevated risks of sexually transmitted infections — of unintended pregnancies — and that’s very preventable stuff.”

With the policy moving forward, CPS Elementary schools will start receiving 250 condoms per school. And while high schools have been providing condoms for some time now, they will also receive an additional 1,000 at no extra cost.
