For months, liberal organizations like Black Lives Matter have called for police to be defunded around America. And since the Democrats wouldn’t dare go against their voter base, they also support defunding police. At least, that was the case until recent polls show that the majority of Americans don’t want to defund police but believe more law and order is needed. Now, given that the Democrats are struggling for approval ratings thanks to President Joe Biden, they are seriously suggesting the Republicans are to blame for defunding police.

Recently, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki and Biden adviser Cedric Richmond believe the GOP’s opposition to the trillion-dollar coronavirus relief bill directly led to police departments being defunded. Their logic comes from the $350 billion that was allocated for state and government aid, but it didn’t mention going directly to police departments.

Not being the only one to see the hypocrisy, the Post’s Salvador Rizzo cleared the air with hard facts. He wrote, “Although Republicans all opposed Biden’s coronavirus relief package, no one voted to cut, or defund, anything. Rather, Democrats proposed $350 billion in emergency funds for state and local governments, and Republicans voted against those extra funds. That’s not a reduction.”

Last month, President Biden tried to get his American Rescue Plan approved by claiming $350 billion would go to hiring police officers around the country. But it should be noted there was no literature in the plan that mandated money going to police departments.

Going off just facts alone, Rizzo concluded that blaming the Republicans for defunding police is utter nonsense.”[G]oing strictly by the bill text, lawmakers had no guarantee that police would get a slice of the pie. What’s more, voting against a one-time infusion of cash is not the same as voting to cut funding, so there is little basis to claim that Republicans are trying to ‘defund the police.'”

With the Biden Administration’s false claims, The Washington Post rated the White House “Three Pinocchios” for even suggesting an idea that Republicans are defunding the police. Especially when several Republican Governors have passed bills protecting police.
