If Joe Biden wants to sign his own political death warrant by giving a front-running Republican some presidential attention, okay in our book.
Thus Biden’s recent verbal clash with GOP Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida not only made the current chief executive look confused (the “Gov who” line was likely not sarcasm. It was senility), but by picking a fight with the popular and 2024 All-Star Republican, Biden gave him presidential gravitas. It gave DeSantis an image as a credible opponent of Joe Biden and ergo an advantage over potential Republican rivals in the 2024 GOP primaries.
FNC: “It was a war of words that grabbed plenty of national attention. For Ron DeSantis, a potential 2024 Republican presidential contender, the give and take with the president has a very obvious political payoff – it only increases his popularity among GOP base voters who will cast ballots in the next race for the Republican presidential nomination.
President Biden, aiming to get under control the surge in new coronavirus cases due to the extremely infectious delta variant, took aim at some Republican governors who he said are ‘signing orders that forbid people from doing the right thing.’ ”
Gotta be impressed with all President Biden is doing to help Governor DeSantis become our next president. (Although it may be a bit unsporting of the Gov to wage a war of wits against an unarmed man.)

“I say to these governors, please help. If you aren’t going to help, at least get out of the way of the people trying to do the right thing,” Biden said this past week.
DeSantis of Florida fired back. He told Biden, “Why don’t you do your job? Why don’t you get this border secure, and until you do that, I don’t want to hear a blip about COVID from you.”
After Biden responded to DeSantis by saying “Governor who?” – the governor struck back the next day and said, “I’m the governor who protects parents and their ability to make the right choices for their children’s education. I’m the governor who protects jobs and education and businesses in Florida by not letting the federal government not lock us down. I’m the governor who answers to the people of Florida not to bureaucrats in Washington.”
“It’s good politics for Gov. DeSantis looking ahead to 2024,” noted GOP consultant Jim Merrill. “Gov. DeSantis and President Biden engaging only benefits Gov. DeSantis. It raises his profile. It sets him apart from others who are looking to run in 2024.”
