Even with Afghanistan falling to the Taliban, the Democrats are still trying to push the COVID-19 pandemic on the American people. It doesn’t seem to matter that the vaccines aren’t helping stop the spread, and who could forget the lockdowns and mask mandates? Although several experts have come forward to prove that masks do little to stop the spread, the CDC and the White House have advised children as young as 2 to start wearing masks. With Florida Governor Ron DeSantis fighting against the school masks mandates, it appears some schools in his state are directly disobeying his orders.
Weeks ago, Governor DeSantis made it known that he was leaving it up to the parents to decide if their child wears a mask or not at school. Making sense, the left wasn’t having it as many liberals and even the White House targeted DeSantis. Now, the superintendent for Leon County Schools, Rocky Hanna, announced on Sunday that his district will require masks.
Making the announcement in a Facebook video, Hanna said, “I am aware that I am the first elected school superintendent to take such action. I am also aware, fully aware, of the consequences I may suffer. Governor, I do have an obligation to uphold the laws of the state of Florida.” Hanna was also sure to send a direct message to DeSantis, “I have a greater obligation, however, to protect for the health, safety and welfare of the children in Tallahassee and Leon County.”
While some might see this as a political play, according to Hanna, it is anything but. The reason for the change in policy is due to the district seeing more than 245 positive COVID-19 cases in just seven days. “I am a total favor of individual rights and freedoms and the rights of parents; however, I strongly believe that my rights end when they infringe on the rights of others. It has also been well documented by the vast majority of health care experts that these masks not only protect the person wearing the mask; more importantly, they protect the child beside them, and to me, your rights end when that child’s rights are infringed on.”
