Gov. Newsom Admits His Republican Opponent Is 2 Points Away From Winning Recall Election

Since the Democrats took control of the White House, it has been nothing but a downward spiral. Even when President Joe Biden and his administration are taken out of the picture, there are still Democrat superstars like New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who recently resigned, and California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is facing a recall election. What started out with just a few signatures turned into a full-on recall election as Newsom’s leadership has left the state in shambles. And it appears even Newsom is aware of the end as he recently made a statement claiming Republican Larry Elder is only 2 points away from gaining control of the polls.

While holding a campaign event at a local Mexican restaurant on Saturday, Newsom appeared to forget that his opponent is only a few poll points away from beating him. Instead, Newsom fell into the usual Democrat rhetoric of fear as he aligned Elder with Trumpism. “Though we defeated Trump, we didn’t defeat Trumpism. Trumpism is still alive and well, even here in the state of California. If you don’t believe me, just consider,” he even added, “the likely person to enter an oath of office, to enter in the governor’s office in just a matter of weeks if we don’t reject this recall.”

First reported by Politico, Newsom apparently sent out an email desperately telling voters that he might be recalled. “Now hear this: Larry Elder is just 2 points from being our next governor. Sorry to scare you, but it’s true.”

Thanks to the law, Newsom only needs to get 50% of the votes to fight off the recall to retain his office. But at the same time, his opponent, Elder, doesn’t need to get 50% of the votes to win either. He only needs the plurality among Newsom’s challengers. If that happens, Newsom’s time as governor will be over.

With the news of Newsom expressing doubt in his recall election, Elders appears to be all smiles as he recently told supporters. “When I get elected, assuming there are still facemask mandates and vaccine mandates, they will be repealed right away and then I’ll break for breakfast.”
