Just before the Trump endorsement Democrat twenty four year incumbent Ron Kind decided to retire. Kind was smart. With Van Orden’s growing momentum in every area of the race, Kind was looking at a general election shellacking. This writer personally spoke to Van Orden earlier this week. Van Orden is a confident warrior. This was his comment on the Kind retirement.

Van Orden: “I would like to thank Rep. Kind for serving in Washington for the last 24 years, and I wish him the best in his retirement.

Today’s announcement is indicative of what I hear every day as I travel the 3rd District: Wisconsinites want a change. Nancy Pelosi and Washington Democrats are driving up inflation with reckless spending, making it harder for families to buy groceries or fill their car at the gas pump. Pelosi and Democrats are driving dangerous, anti-law enforcement rhetoric which has led to a rise in crime across the nation. Pelosi and Democrats have opened our borders, leading to more illegal immigrants crossing the border every month than the population of our district’s largest city. Enough is enough.

Our campaign has shown that the people of the 3rd are ready for a proven, tested Leader in Washington who will stand up to Nancy Pelosi’s radical agenda, and ensure that our children and grandchildren will live in a safe and prosperous nation. I will continue to work tirelessly to earn every vote, and am standing ready to represent the incredible people of Western Wisconsin.”

Kind either decided himself, or was told by party poobahs, to get out so Democrats could recruit a candidate with less baggage. His baggage? Among other things he was the supposedly inadvertent landlord of a massage parlor. Given his likely forced resignation, not exactly a happy ending for Kind.

True, in 2020 he did win the seat, but by a razor thin margin. Nevertheless, the district continued to trend Republican. Now, the numbers told the tale. It was bedtime for Kind. The new palooka will be a Pelosi clone who takes orders straight from the Speaker. Van Orden will have a good fight on good terrain. The smart money remains with him.
