Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), the ranking member on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, spoke out on Monday that the Taliban is going about executing some of the 10,000 interpreters who worked with the U.S. in Afghanistan.

“The interpreters, who worked with our Special Forces, they are gone. The Taliban will not allow them to leave,” McCaul said while appearing on CNN. “These are the guys who worked right with our special forces. The Taliban views them as the worst of the worse because they betrayed, in their view, their country, and they worked with the infidel.”

While McCaul estimated that there are 10,000 interpreters in Afghanistan, he added that the number of people at risk could be as high as 30,000 when you take their families into account.

“So, you think they’re going to be stuck? They’re never going to get out?” asked host Wolf Blitzer.

“They’re already being executed,” McCaul replied. “We’re already getting stories of families and interpreters being executed by the Taliban.”

McCaul then shifted to attacking Joe Biden for his botched withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan.

“Had they done this sooner, this actually could have worked,” he said. “But they waited for the last minute on the hopes that they had this peace deal with the Taliban.”

This came hours after Secretary of State Antony Blinken claimed to the Foreign Affairs Committee that the Biden administration had prepared for worst-case scenarios in Afghanistan, alleging that officials were “intensely focused” on the safety of Americans.

“Even the most pessimistic assessments did not predict that government forces in Kabul would collapse while U.S. forces remained,” he said, according to Newsmax. “Nonetheless, we planned and exercised a wide range of contingencies.”

McCaul, however, wasn’t having any of it. He confronted Blinken, telling him that before the troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, “I was on the phone with very high ranking officials at State, DoD, the White House, trying to save lives.”

“We had Americans that couldn’t get out,” McCaul continued. “We had interpreters that couldn’t get through the perimeter of the Taliban. They are left behind. They will be executed. They do have a bull’s eye on their back.”

“We had four buses of Afghan girls, orphans, at the American University’s school of music that sat there for 17 hours, when I was finally told the State Department would not lift the gate to let them into safety, even though they had an aircraft waiting,” he stated, going on to say that these girls are now “at the mercy of the Taliban.”

“Can you guarantee to this committee that we will get them out?” he asked.

“I have men and women in my department, the State Department, who raised their hands from around the world and ran into the building [Hamid Karzai International Airport]. They went from posts around the world into that airport to help people get out,” Blinken replied.

“They were serving at the gates right alongside our brothers and sisters in uniform, including the 13 who gave their lives, literally trying to pull people in as necessary — or to walk them in, to talk them in, to do everything they possibly could to bring American citizens, to bring Afghans at risk, to bring the nationals of our partners and others into the airport,” he continued.

Notice that this was a total deflection, as Blinken did not mention the Afghan girls at all.

Biden and his administration completely dropped the ball in Afghanistan, and they have blood on their hands. They need to be held accountable for what is happening to our allies in Afghanistan, who they shamelessly abandoned.
