This publication has pals in various places. One of the sharpest of them is Florida Republican leader Emily Nunez. She is a former Marine officer and a financial professional. Nunez is quite active in the Florida GOP and when she ventured to me in a phone call that she would be attending a National Federation of Republican Women event that featured rising GOP star Governor Kristi Noem of South Dakota and, a woman I’ve had a crush on for years, and British pundit Katie Hopkins, I asked her to cover it for us. She graciously agreed. First, Noem.

Nunez: “She looked very presidential. Noem was confident, attractive, and definitely had command presence…She’s no feminist and talked about taking heat from some in the Republican Party over a college sports/LGBT issue. But she stuck to her guns. She’d be great on the 2024 ticket.”

Nunez is right on all counts. Noem has also recently created a negative stir by intervening with a state official who was part of the process of granting the governor’s daughter a state business license.

For someone who had a squeaky clean image this was not a good move. Voters don’t like politicians granting special perks to those close to them, including family. Noem’s defense is that this is a family matter and everyone else should butt out. Also, she says Republicans get a worse treatment on these deals than Democrats. Classic crisis management rule number one; change the subject. Might be a blip on the radar for Noem or may be an approaching Exocet. Time will tell. On to Hopkins.

Nunez: “She looked great and spoke about how US troops should be proud of their service in Afghanistan, as they protected the West for 20 years there. She also said there is no dealing with the Taliban at all. Hopkins said the US is the best country in the world and said she has applied for US citizenship, the UK being, in her view, too far gone…She also spoke of governmental overreach on COVID and said she loves Ron DeSantis and would be very happy with a DeSantis-Noem ticket in 2024.” Hopkins again wows them. A comely and brilliant lass is Katie.
