On Sunday, a man plowed through a Christmas parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin, killing five people and injuring over 40 more. Now, former President Donald Trump has broken his silence about this devastating incident.

“The whole world is watching the tragedy which just took place in Waukesha, Wisconsin, it is devastating, horrible, and very very sick!” Trump said in an emailed statement. “My heart goes out to the people of this great, beautiful, and hardworking community.”

“We must find the answers to this terrible crime, and stop these violent and depraved acts from happening again,” Trump added. “I am with you Waukesha, and always will be!”

The suspect in this incident has been identified as 39 year-old Darrell Brooks Jr., who is set to be charged with five counts of first-degree intentional homicide and other offenses. Police chief Dan Thompson told Fox News that Brooks was fleeing a domestic violence incident when he plowed through the parade in a red SUV.

“There is no evidence that this is a terrorist incident,” Chief Thompson said. “We have no information that Brooks knew anybody from the parade.”

One officer fired a weapon to stop Brooks, but he did not hit him or anyone else.

“He drove right through the barricades and the officers,” Chief Thompson said. “When an officer tried to engage and stop the threat, he still continued through the crowd.

Waukesha Fire Chief Steve Howard spoke out to address the “carnage” first responders saw when they arrived at the parade.

“What stands out in my mind from our conversations, we do have people with military backgrounds and they likened it to a war zone,” Howard said.

Thompson chimed back in to say that local residents immediately started working with first responders to triage victims and transport them to hospitals in the area.

“Minutes after the incident occurred, I responded to the scene, and what I saw out of chaos and tragedy, was heroes,” Thompson said.

The five victims who were killed in this tragic event have been identified as 81-year-old Wilhelm Hospel, 79-year-old Virginia Sorenson, 71-year-old LeAnna Owen, 52-year-old Tamara Durand, and 52-year-old Jane Kulich.

The Dancing Grannies organization has confirmed that it lost members in the incident.

“Our group was doing what they loved, performing in front of crowds in a parade putting smiles on faces of all ages, filling them with joy and happiness,” the group said in a statement, according to The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “While performing the grannies enjoyed hearing the crowds cheers and applause which certainly brought smiles to their faces and warmed their hearts. “Those who died were extremely passionate Grannies. Their eyes gleamed…..joy of being a Grannie. They were the glue….held us together.”
