PHILADELPHIA, PA – According to reports, an armed 38-year-old Lyft driver shot and wounded two would-be carjackers earlier in January who authorities say attempted to pull off a brazen carjacking in broad daylight with witnesses abound.

The incident occurred on January 3rd at approximately 2:45 p.m. along the 1100 block of North 40th Street as the Lyft driver was reportedly transporting a female passenger in his 2011 Infiniti. Authorities say that the suspects inside a Honda Accord rear-ended the victim, prompting the Lyft driver to pull over.

Once the Lyft driver exited the vehicle, he was approached by one of the suspects armed with a rifle and demanded the Lyft driver to give up his car. The Lyft driver had asked the suspect if the female passenger could exit the vehicle, which the suspect reportedly permitted.

As the gunman was entering the Infiniti, police say the Lyft driver pulled out his concealed carry firearm and shot at the armed suspect. While this was ongoing, the second suspect inside the Honda attempted to run over the Lyft driver but was shot at by the victim.

While both of the suspects were able to flee the immediate scene in both vehicles, they didn’t get far.

Police found the armed suspect inside the stolen Infiniti along the 4200 block of Parkside Avenue, where he was reported to have suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. As for the suspect in the Honda, police found him along the 4300 block of Lancaster Avenue – also suffering a gunshot wound to his ribcage.
