Most Of The ‘270 Doctors’ Who Claimed Joe Rogan Was Spreading Misinfo Aren’t Even Medical Doctors

Earlier in January, Red Voice Media shared a report [1] dubbed “270 Doctors Send Letter To Spotify Demanding COVID ‘Misinformation Policy’ Be Enacted Over Joe Rogan”, which pertained to a letter sent by these proclaimed medical professionals demanding Spotify censor Rogan for hosting the likes of Dr. Robert Malone.

Since that time, we have learned that most of the signatories on said letter to Spotify weren’t even medical doctors [2].

As we noted in our original reporting regarding the efforts to silence Joe Rogan and his guests, a group of 270 doctors and medical professionals drafted an open letter to Spotify – the platform that hosts Rogan’s popular podcast – demanding that the company both enact and enforce a COVID “misinformation policy.”

Of course, what that really meant, per their letter [3], was to only allow Rogan to adhere to whatever the approved narrative around COVID is and to also stop allowing professionals like Dr. Robert Malone a platform since the crux of the letter focused on his appearance on Rogan’s podcast.

And outlets like Rolling Stone [4], The Guardian [5], and Salon [6] jumped on the bandwagon to proclaim that a series of infallible doctors were calling out Rogan and demanding change, with the topic of these stories eventually cropping up on Twitter’s “trending” page.

However, investigative journalist Jordan Schachtel took a closer look at the “270 doctors” who signed this letter directed to Spotify and found something interesting: Most of the signatories aren’t even doctors.

“Well, I reviewed this open letter, and it turns out that only around 100 of the 270+ signatories to the letter are people with qualified medical degrees,” Schachtel reported. “And a large chunk of that 100 or so medical doctors are MDs employed at universities who are not in fact practitioners of medicine.”

Schachtel additionally pointed out that the misleading nature of these reports were only emboldened by a part of the open letter that read “As physicians, we bear the arduous weight of a pandemic that has stretched our medical systems to their limits”, which set the stage for this group of signatories to misrepresent themselves.

In a rather funny twist, Schachtel said the letter itself demanding restrictions on misinformation is misinformation itself, noting by his count that the letter included random signatures from “over 50 PhD academics, around 60 college professors, 29 nurses, 10 students, 4 medical residents, and even a handful of… science podcasters.”

Recently, Dr. Robert Malone appeared on Fox News to address the ridiculous open letter, calling it a “huge kerfuffle over 270 malcontents.”
