WASHINGTON, DC – While hypocritical practices in Washington, particularly with Democrats, is hardly a new concept, peak hypocrisy was on display by Senate Democrats on January 13th mere hours after they attempted to uproot the filibuster – by Democrats enjoying the spoils of the filibuster.

As we previously reported, Democrat Senator Kyrsten Sinema defied the aspirations of her party when she took to the floor and explained that she had zero desire to meddle with the filibuster to simply accomplish partisan legislative goals.

“There’s no need for me to restate my longstanding support for the 60-vote threshold to pass legislation,” Sinema said. “There’s no need for me to restate its role in protecting our country from wild reversals of federal policy. This week’s harried discussions about Senate rules are but a poor substitute for what I believe could have and should have been a thoughtful public debate at any time over the past year.”

Approximately six-and-a-half hours after Senator Sinema dashed the hopes of her fellow Democrats to subvert the filibuster, something remarkable happened: Democrats wound up using the filibuster to shut down a bill brought by Republican Senator Ted Cruz.

Strangely enough, Democrats actually helped out Russia’s Vladimir Putin by using the filibuster and shutting down Senator Cruz’s bill that would have sanctioned the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. While six Democrats did cross the proverbial aisle in support of the bill, it ultimately failed to meet the 60 vote threshold to pass.

As CNN reported on the bill, the majority of Democrats opposed the sanctions against Russia due to the Biden administration arguing that “the sanctions would undercut US efforts to deter the threat from Russia.”

Keep in mind, the likes of Democrats and the mainstream media have been clamoring for years that Republicans are “soft” on Russia, yet when Democrats were presented with an opportunity to apply some force against Russia via bill drafted by Republicans, they not only shut it down but did so via the very legislative tool they’d tried to eliminate over the past several weeks.

Overall, the episodic nature between Democrats’ attempt to dismantle the filibuster to then use it in a manner that behooved Russia could very well serve as an eye-opening matter for undecided voters come the 2022 midterms.
