Although many Americans have called for the Biden administration to boycott the Olympic games being held in communist China, the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are officially underway. While athletes from all over the world compete to honor their country and hopefully bring home that coveted gold medal, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was sure to instruct U.S. athletes not to protest or speak out against the communist regime as it could make the hosting country angry.
Speaking in front of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, Pelosi stated, “I would say to our athletes — you are there to compete. Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government because they are ruthless. I know there is a temptation on the part of some to speak out while they are there, I respect that. But, I also worry about what the Chinese government might do to their reputations, to their families.”

The words from Pelosi come as China has been accused of forced labor, acts of genocide, religious repression, and the suppression of democratic protests. But again, Pelosi noted that athletes should stay focused, safe, and silent.
On the other side of the aisle, Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy responded to the Democrat, saying, “Speaker Pelosi doesn’t want to upset the Chinese Communist Party. So she’s warning US Olympians to stay silent about China’s atrocities. No surprise this comes right as Democrats are trying to jam through the 3,000-page ‘America Concedes Act’ that helps China but hurts America.”
Republican Carlos A. Gimenez of Florida added, “The U.S. should be BACKING UP athletes using their freedom of self-expression to expose the Beijing communists for the murderers they are, NOT telling them to hide. Americans down cower to communists. We defeat them.”
And Nile Gardiner, who was a former aide to Margaret Thatcher, noted, “This is a disgrace. The United States is the world’s superpower. It should never kowtow to the Chinese Communist Party.”
