International brinksmanship is a delicate thing. One wrong move, one wrong word, one wrong gesture and your opponent gets the wrong impression and acts on it. Over the last week Joe Biden’s gaffes have been so egregious he could give the Russians the wrong idea about and NATO and American goals. Putin could act on them and plunge the world into a much larger conflict, because a trapped animal will lash out in any direction in a bid for survival.

FNC: “The White House on Friday insisted the U.S. military will not be deployed to Ukraine amid Russia’s multifront war on the country after comments President Biden made to troops in Poland seemed to suggest otherwise.”

Biden: “You’re going to see when you’re there – some of you have been there – you’re going to see women, young people, standing in the middle, in front of a damn tank, saying, ‘I’m not leaving.'” This is a clear statement that American troops will intervene in Ukraine. The White House had to clean up the mess.

“The president has been clear we are not sending U.S. troops to Ukraine and there is no change in that position,” a White House spox told press Friday.

Then to add insult to injury, Biden said Saturday about Putin, “For God’s sake, this man cannot remain in power.” There he is calling for regime change pure and simple. That is no gray statement. It is black and white. Now, would it be great? Yes. But just how will we do this? Invade Russia? Encourage a coup? If we are behind a coup, do we want to advertise it? As an old Army comrade commented, “His mouth is writing checks I don’t want US Army asses to have to cash.” The White House again had to backtrack on Biden’s words.

“The President’s point was that Putin cannot be allowed to exercise power over his neighbors or the region. He was not discussing Putin’s power in Russia, or regime change,” a White House official told media shortly after the speech concluded. Very bad spin.

Blinken also had to step in. “We do not have a strategy of regime change in Russia, or anywhere else for that matter,” the Secretary of State added. “In this case, as in any case, it’s up to the people of the country in question. It’s up to the Russian people.”

“I would be interested in knowing whether that was in his TelePrompTer or not, because people who create his speeches have a responsibility for the American people to minimize security threats,” national security analyst Rebekah Koffler said. “And if they put something like that in his TelePrompTer, that means those people are incompetent.”
