The potential sale of Twitter to billionaire Elon Musk for a whopping $44 billion sent shockwaves through D.C. as the Democrats quickly rallied on Twitter to express their concerns. Knowing that Musk is a strong believer in free speech, many liberal activists thought the buyout would allow people like former President Donald Trump to return to the platform. After the January 6th peaceful protest, Trump was not only banned from Twitter, but other social media apps followed the same course of action. But before the peaceful protest and Trump being silenced online, a surprising turn of events happened when practically overnight, Joe Biden gained a staggering amount of ballots, making him the alleged winner of the 2020 election. But what exactly do Twitter and the 2020 election have in common? Perspective.

The Democrats might be concerned about what Musk could do with Twitter and no interference, but the sale has come to a stop as the company suggested that they are currently dealing with a situation with bot accounts. Although Twitter claimed it was only around 5% of accounts that were bots, Musk fired back, stating that the number was closer to 20%. That led to an audit which revealed that half of President Joe Biden’s followers were, in fact, not real. Take a look.

That’s right, during the 2020 election, Trump was adamant about him winning a second term in the White House. When it came time to vote, the election appeared to be extremely close, but as mentioned above, the next day, Biden had become the most ballots counted for President in the history of the United States. While both Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris celebrated the supposed historic occasion, many, including Trump, warned that fraud had taken place and the election was stolen from the American people.

Although the election was two years ago, the claims surrounding the 2020 election are continuously debated today. With Biden’s Twitter account being full of bot accounts, it has reenergized the accusation of election fraud during the presidential election.

As for what the future holds for Musk and Twitter, the sale is slated to go forward, with Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal recently writing, “We suspend over half a million spam accounts every day, usually before any of you even see them on Twitter. We also lock millions of accounts each week that we suspect may be spam if they can’t pass human verification challenges (captchas, phone verification, etc.).”

It should be noted that according to Twitter, a bot account is defined as “accounts that are unreachable and will not see the account’s tweets (either because they’re spam, bots, propaganda, etc. or because they’re no longer active on Twitter).”
