PORTLAND, OR – The body of a 13-year-old girl who was reported missing has been located by police floating in a stream about 10 miles from her home, according to police. Her death has been ruled a homicide, but no suspect has been arrested at this time.

Milana Li was described as a “13-year-old runaway” reported missing from her apartment near SW Murray Blvd and SW Scholls Ferry Rd on Monday, May 9. She had been last seen at her apartment by her mother around 4pm Sunday wearing plaid pajama pants and a sweatshirt. Reportedly, she spoke Russian, with English as a second language, with which she struggled.

Police had attempted to contact and locate Li by her cell phone, but it was turned off within ours of Li’s disappearance.

Around 2:50pm on Tuesday, police responded to a call of “suspicious circumstances” in Westside Linear Park. Li’s body was located near a walking trail in a small stream. She was declared deceased on scene and it was unknown for how long her body had been in that location.

“The circumstances surrounding Li’s death are suspicious,” a press release from investigating Beaverton Police Department read. The department indicated that the autopsy revealed the manner of death was a homicide, but did not release specific details regarding the cause of death.

At the time of this writing, no motive, suspect, or persons of interests have been indicated by police.

“When a 13-year-old is murdered in our community that’s obviously a tragic event that rocks our community and our police department,” Matt Henderson of the Beaverton Police Department said, according to KPTV. “And, I want our community to know that the full power of the Beaverton Police Department’s investigative staff is working this case. And we’re gonna find who did this to Milana.”

Li was a student at Conestoga Middle School.

Police say they have received dozens of tips in this case. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is urged to contact Beaverton Police Department Detective Cindy Herring at 503-526-2280.

Police do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
