It wasn’t even a day after the mass shooting at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas that the Democrats and the Biden administration demanded for action to be taken when it came to gun violence and the sale of assault rifles in America. Quickly politicizing the issue, President Biden asked, “As a nation, we have to ask: When in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby?  When in God’s name will we do what we all know in our gut needs to be done?” While parents are dealing with their lives being torn apart, Americans are criticizing both the Democrats and the mainstream media for hijacking the tragedy to gain political points.

Washington correspondent Julia Ioffe has received a great deal of backlash after she wrote on twitter, “What if you could perform an abortion with an AR-15? What if the 19 kids killed [in] Uvalde weren’t children, but fetuses?”

Connecting two of the hottest topics in America, Ioffe continued with several more tweets that included, “This won’t change anything, just as Sandy Hook didn’t. In America, women are less important than babies, and babies are less important than guns, and money is more important than all of it combined”. And, “Nothing will change because a minority of Americans think that some dead kids is worth sacrificing for their made-up right to own an assault rifle, because this minority of Americans live in sparsely populated states, which gives them power to impose their vision on everyone else.”

Having since deleted the tweet, Republican Representative Lauren Boebert added, “You cannot legislate away evil.”

Given that it was Twitter, it didn’t take long before Democrat, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, suggested that Boebert resign from Congress. “Why even be in Congress if you don’t believe in doing your job? Just quit and let someone who actually gives a damn do it instead of acting like a useless piece of furniture when babies are shot with AR15s that we let teen boys impulse buy before they can legally have a beer.”

Rob Reiner chimed in, placing all the blame on the GOP. “The blood of every child that dies of gun violence in this country is on the hands of the Republican Party.”
