This is beginning to look a lot like the 1968 Democrat presidential landscape, as many Democrats want their incumbent president to not run for reelection. The avalanche has begun.

Democrats are refusing to say whether they will support Biden or claiming he won’t run thus the question is moot. The White House says he’s running. That could change after the midterms.

Fox: “Two New York Democrats declined to say whether they would support President Biden for president in 2024 Tuesday, adding to the list of Democrats who are soft on the idea of a Biden re-election campaign.

When asked during a debate if Biden should seek re-election, Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-NY, said it’s “Too early to say. Doesn’t serve the purpose of the Democratic Party to deal with that until after the midterms.”

Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-NY said , “I don’t believe he’s running for re-election,” she said. Then she backtracked, “I absolutely support President Biden,” and she lauded him for “exemplary leadership.” She laid it on thick. “If Biden chooses to run for President again, I absolutely intend to support him,” she commented. She said she is “focused on my own August 23rd primary, and ensuring we hold our Democratic majorities in the House and Senate in the 2022 midterms.”

Rep. Dean Phillips, D-MN, said last week on a radio show that, “The country would be well-served by a new generation of compelling, well-prepared, dynamic Democrats who step up.”

Angie Craig, D-MN., agreed with her fellow Minnesota representative, telling MinnPost Tuesday that “I think Dean Phillips and I are in lockstep and alignment with that, and I’m going to do everything in my power as a member of Congress to make sure that we have a new generation of leadership.”

Rep. Tom Malinowski, D-N.J, was asked about Biden 2024 during a town hall, and punted. “I don’t know if he’s running in 2024 or who’s running, so I’m not going to opine on who should be president,” Malinowski said.

Rep. Tim Ryan, D-OH., avoided the question. “I’m working on my own election and that’s all I’m focused on right now,” he said. Ryan is the Democrat nominee in the Ohio Senate race this fall.

In early July AOC told CNN that “we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it… Should he run again, I think it’s — we’ll take a look at it. Right now we need to focus on winning a majority instead of a presidential election.”

At CNN they’re hedging their bets. “Well, again, we’re having this conversation three months before the 2022 midterms. What happens in those midterms will say a lot more, Brianna, than any poll today about Joe Biden’s standing in the country and Joe Biden’s standing within his own Democratic Party,” CNN anchor John King said. He’s got that right.
