Senator Michael Bennet (D-CO) acknowledged on Sunday during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press that the Democratic Party has “lost touch with working people in our country.”
His comments come at a time when many in the party are grappling with how to regain support among voters who have shifted away in recent years.
During the interview, host Kristen Welker asked Bennet about his thoughts on the future of the Democratic Party, particularly in light of recent challenges.

She noted that while Bennet had refrained from calling for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to step down, he had been critical of Schumer’s deal to avert a government shutdown, which aligned him with Republicans.
Welker also pointed out Bennet’s statement that it is important for leaders to know when it’s time to go. She asked if Bennet still had confidence in Schumer.
Bennet responded by pivoting to what he viewed as a more pressing issue for the Democratic Party.
“I think a much more important question is what we are going to do as the Democratic Party, to create a compelling view for Americans that will allow us to lead again,” Bennet said.

He further emphasized the gravity of the party’s struggles, stating, “We should have never lost to Donald Trump once, much less twice.”
While Bennet did acknowledge the many things he criticizes Trump for, he also pointed out that Trump’s success in winning the presidency was not due to any failures on Trump’s part.
“There are many things I blame Donald Trump for, as you can tell from the conversation we’ve had today, but getting elected president isn’t one of those things,” Bennet explained.
A key part of Bennet’s critique was aimed at the party’s disconnect with working-class Americans.
He stated, “The Democratic Party has lost touch with working people in our country at a time when 50 years of trickle-down economics has meant that most Americans feel like no matter how hard they work, their kids are not going to live a life better than the life they lead.”
Bennet’s remarks highlight the ongoing struggle within the Democratic Party to reconnect with blue-collar voters, many of whom have increasingly supported Republican candidates in recent elections.
He urged the party to seize the opportunity created by recent electoral setbacks to reassess its platform and create an agenda that would better address the concerns of working families.
“I think the Democratic Party needs to use this moment of having been repudiated at the national level to figure out a creative and imaginative agenda for the 21st century that’s going to lift the fortunes of working people and the middle class all across this country,” Bennet concluded.
Bennet’s comments reflect broader concerns within the Democratic Party about its ability to appeal to key voter groups ahead of the midterm elections and the presidential election in 2028.
As the party looks to rebuild and recover from its recent losses, Bennet’s call for a more focused agenda aimed at working Americans is likely to be a point of discussion among party leaders in the coming months.

But you won’t. Because you’re a cult run by fanatics who have desecrated the party of FDR and JFK. And you can’t help yourselves. When your knee-jerk-reaction is to scratch $w@$+!k@$ into electric vehicles (80-90 percent of which are owned by DEMOCRATS) after pounding the propaganda drum of climate change in order to get said Democrats to purchase the very cars you are burning, you have truly lost your way. Furthermore, you exposed yourselves as a party that never gave a darn about climate change or getting off fossil fuels. You……just……want……power.
He’s wrong in referring to his own party as the Democratic Party. They are Democrats who by and large aren’t really interested in democracy these days.
They are not out of touch. They know exactly what they have done and why. They just failed.
Democrats are Evil and never speak the Truth.
