Democratic socialist Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont formally endorsed Joe Biden for the presidency today, ending speculation that he would wait until the August convention in Milwaukee to do so.

But nothing in politics comes without a price. So what did Biden pay to get this endorsement?

Biden likely gave Sanders veto power over the choice of a vice-presidential nominee. That will push the choice to the hard left and probably takes Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota out of contention. It puts Senator Kamala Harris of California and Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts at the front of the list. If Michigan Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer keeps loudly attacking the president her stock will rise as well with the hard left.

The deal also probably gave anti-American socialists like AOC, Omar, and Tlaib control over the Democratic platform. Though nobody reads or cares about the platform anymore, it will be a symbolic victory and one they can take back to their gullible supporters and crow about.
