With police reform taking center stage, Democrats have been eager to preach unity, honor, and discipline – even encouraging protestors to voice their opinions and complaints.

But what happens when the protestors arrive at your front door? Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot of Chicago showed just how much protestors matter when she not only banned assembling near her residence but also required hundreds of police to protect her family.

Following several months of riots and protests, the Chicago Police Department has seen its bustling numbers dwindle as many officers are either retiring or resigning due to public outcry. With resources at a record low, some police are demanding answers as to why they are abandoning high-crime areas to protect a single neighborhood.

During a press conference on Thursday, Mayor Lightfoot defended her actions saying, “Given the threats to my home and my family, I’m gonna do everything to make sure that they are protected. I make no apologies whatsoever.”

When asked to elaborate on the threats made against her family, Mayor Lightfoot fell into the usual Democratic rhetoric of sidestepping by claiming, “Every single day, there is something that pops up. There are specific threats to my person, to my wife, and to our home.”

Mayor Lightfoot also denied claims that “hundreds” of police were assigned to protecting her home and family, leaving parts of Chicago without law enforcement. President of Fraternal Order of Police John Catanzara gawked at the Mayor’s comments telling reporters that up to 140 officers have been assigned to the Mayor’s residence at a given time.
