Attacking first responders, looting American businesses, and wishing death on the President. These are just a few accomplishments made by Black Lives Matter protestors over the past couple of months. Literally injecting themselves into every part of our society, BLM recently took over a high school football game to spread their so-called message of equality while bashing the police.

Visitors and parents at the Lakewood High School football game in Cleveland, Ohio didn’t know they were attending a political pep rally as they sat down to watch their kids play. But that is exactly what happened when the PS system turned on and the band started to play the BLM national anthem, Lift Every Voice and Song. The band was accompanied by a speaker who said…

“Let us pause and reflect on the inequality that our nation has faced since its beginning. The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Tamir Rice among others remind us of the systemic racism that persists across so many of our nation’s institutions and society as a whole. By acknowledging, discussing, and taking action to address these inequalities, Lakewood City Schools aims to be an agent of change, not only in our community but in the world. We must all take a stand against racism. Let this be the moment when our children someday look back and say, ‘This is when we stood together for change.’”

A member of the audience and popular radio host Bob Frantz was attending the game to see his son play when he heard the announcement. Talking to reporters, he said, “We were standing respectfully for the playing of the Lakewood alma mater, and when it ended they began a new song. Then, when the announcer began telling everyone how horribly racist American society is, we were livid. Most of us sat down immediately, and the three dads near me, all of whom were police officers, were visibly angry. One said he would have walked out if it wasn’t his son’s senior season.”

With most parents upset at the stunt, the school was quick to respond but not in the way you might think. They aren’t apologizing for the mistake, yet they are planning to continue the BLM speech before every game, just like in the NFL. It is surprising the Ohio school is allowing this type of protest when just weeks ago two football players were suspended for running onto the field with pro Police flags.

Still, the school is facing major backlash for its stance on the BLM movement as police and parents are calling for the games to be boycotted. The police see the move as personal since their officers are the ones who support security for the weekly games. They believe if they are not welcomed, then they are not needed.

While Lakewood high school continues to stand their ground, they did make a compromise with the police. During halftime, a moderator will read off a script that thanks all the first responders who have given their lives in the line of duty and those who continue to protect the city of Lakewood.
