Since the killing of George Floyd, Minneapolis has been ground zero for police reform. Among the riots, looting, and killings, people have begged for the police to be defunded. They claim the violence would simply go away if the police weren’t so hostile. Well, it appears the exact opposite has happened. Thanks to their constant complaints, Minneapolis has seen a record number of police walking off the job. Now, in the face of rising crime, the city must outsource its police force or be consumed by the very violence they wish to end.

Over the months, cities like Minneapolis and Atlanta have taken to the streets to promote a world without police. They want a better future for their children, yet when left alone – looting and riots seem to be the only expression they know how to do.

To make the matter even more laughable, when the rise of crime reached the city officials, they demanded to know where all the police had gone. Their streets were overrun with crime and violence. Murder was at an all-time high, but according to the city – it was the police who were at fault.

Speaking to the city council was none other than Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo. When presented with the problem of regaining control of the city, Arradondo doesn’t see an answer without more law and order. After being pressed on the issues, the police chief had a simple answer to where all the police have gone. His answer – they quit.

Concerned citizens even joined forces to sue the city, stating Minneapolis had fewer police than it was required to have according to their charter. While the city council is looking at every avenue to help bring law and order back to their once-thriving city, it appears they are leaning towards farming out the police work to other departments in the area.

Given the dire state the city finds itself in, there isn’t much room for them to experiment with safety. As it stands, the outsourcing of police work would cost the city roughly $500,000 for a little over a month of work. With such a steep cost, the city isn’t sure how long or safe they can make their citizens before it is too late, and the streets are overrun. But remember, this is all in the name of police reform.
