While we don’t want anyone assaulted by buttinski yahoos, we don’t remember Democrat Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler or the Left being very upset when Republican Rand Paul was attacked, or Ted Cruz or Sarah Huckabee Sanders were harassed as they were eating out with their families. And anyway, Democrats have encouraged mask lunacy. Wheeler is merely receiving the fruits what he himself has promoted.

FNC: “Ted Wheeler, the mayor of Portland, Ore., pepper-sprayed a man Sunday who confronted him for not wearing a mask while dining at a pub. Wheeler and former one-term Mayor Sam Adams were leaving the McMenamins Hillsdale Brewery & Public House around 8 p.m. when a man video recording him said he had been photographing the mayor while he was inside a tent area.”

“He accused me of sitting in a restaurant without a mask,” the report said. “In fact, I was in the tented area of a restaurant sitting at a table, and I informed him the current Covid regulations allow people to take their mask off for the purpose of eating and drinking. He then accused me of other things to which I indicated he did not understand the rules and should probably have a better understanding if he was going to confront people about them. I clearly informed him that he needed to back off. He did not do so I informed him that I was carrying pepper spray and that I would use it if he did not back off. He remained at close distance, I pulled out my pepper spray and I sprayed him in the eyes.”

Wheeler’s nemesis commented: “I can’t believe you just pepper-sprayed me,'” Wheeler said. Well, not surprised. Wheeler doesn’t look like a guy who would punch anybody.

And interesting aspect to the story is the re-emergence of disgraced former Portland mayor Sam Adams. His tenure in office was destroyed by a scandal involving a suspected sexual relationship with a teenager boy. Prosecutors investigated claims that the relationship began before the boy, Beau Breedlove, turned 18. Though no charges were brought, Adams reputation was seriously tarnished even in progressive Portland. He decided against a run for reelection.
