Candace Owens is wonderful. She is lovely, articulate, logical, conservative, and telegenic. Her punditry is superb. But she is a person who has made a living out of the sound of her own words. Fine. But to aspire to the presidency one should have run something else than one’s own mouth. Thus, is Owens starting to believe her own press releases? Is Potomac Fever clouding her usually acute senses?

She may be just angling for a Cabinet-level position, as Pete Buttigieg successfully did, after a half-hearted run. Well, okay. But even there it is preferable one has some management experience because pundit celebrity, as shiny as it is, is no substitute for executive experience.

That’s why governors usually make much better presidents than senators and private sector leaders, as we have recently seen, much better presidents than most political leaders.

FNC: “Candace Owens, the conservative writer and commentator who co-founded the BLEXIT movement, said she was mulling a presidential run on Twitter over the weekend. ‘I love America,’ the New York Times best-selling author tweeted Saturday. ‘Thinking about running for President.’ ”

Loving one’s country is a good thing. But it is not the full requirement package for sitting in the Oval Office. Owens, her skills of thought and debate no doubt formidable, would be sheared post haste by the likes of Chuck Schumer and even Mitch McConnell. It’s not that she isn’t sharp, she’s quite brilliant, but it’s that the country doesn’t have time to tap its foot while she learns on the job leadership.

It seems her announcement has been responded to with all the gravitas and profound seriousness it deserves.

Where Owens shines is in rhetorical combat, as in this clash with AOC.

“I used to be a waitress and I worked multiple doubles,” Owens tweeted. “I am laughing out loud at how much of a coastal elitist you have to be to view that as the definition of a hard day at work. Please get on a plane and see the rest of the world (or country) you spoiled rotten brat.” Excellent stuff. She should continue to do it.
