During his confirmation hearing last week, Biden’s pick for education secretary came under fire for his stance on transgender students and which sports they should be allowed to play. Instead of giving his stance, Dr. Miguel Cardona tried to play politics and sneak away from the questions. Certainly, something he has learned from the Democrats in the past, but as you are about to see, Senator Rand Paul doesn’t allow that to happen when he directly asks for his opinion on the matter.

The Republican Senator has been known to raise his voice once or twice when trying to get his point across, but when it came to kids sports and which kids should be allowed to play, the senator was visibly passionate about trying to understand where Dr. Cardona stance on the matter is. At the start, Paul tries to ask a simple question, “If you’re confirmed, will you enforce that Office of Civil Rights opinion?” Paul asked. The opinion, which is held by President Biden, is that transgender students should be able to play in the sports they identify with. So, like in Connecticut, a boy could identify as a female and then dominate the entire sport – which again, has happened.

What was the doctor’s response, simple – “I understand that there are a lot of concerns about that. If confirmed, it’s my responsibility and my privilege to make sure that we’re following civil rights of all students, and that includes activities that they may engage in high school or athletics.”

Like most Americans, Paul wasn’t satisfied with the answer and tries to ask it in a different way. “What do you think in general of boys running in girls’ track meets like they’ve been doing in Connecticut?”

Again, Dr. Cardona tells the senator that the educators should respect the rights of the children. But does that even answer the question? As you can see above, the two go back and forth for several minutes before Paul blatantly asks, “Do you worry about having boys run in girls’ track meets?”

Simple enough for any person to answer that question, but like an assistant who has just started their job, Dr. Cardona caves to the pressure and says, “I think it’s appropriate – I think it’s the legal responsibility for schools to provide opportunities for students to participate in activities and this includes students who are transgender.”

Dr. Cardona would not elaborate more on the subject and quickly cut off any more questions that surrounded the matter. But Senator Paul wasn’t finished as he gave a scathing response to Dr. Cardona saying, “I think the fact that you seem to be afraid to answer the question, or you basically do answer the question by saying it’s OK without saying it’s OK, really is a statement to real problem we have and a disconnect between middle America and what most Americans actually believe.”
